Based in the West Midlands, south of Birmingham, the charity provides sanctuary for mistreated and neglected horses. Of the ten horses currently residing at the Trust, each has its own distressing story, and most require ongoing treatment for previous health problems, physical conditions or injuries.

The cost of treatment, along with feed, bedding and field maintenance is rising - in part due to the current economic climate. The Trust is working hard to raise funds to meet the regular costs, but is also looking to expand in order to extend their network and reach out to neglected animals from locations all across the UK.

Sue Gessey, founder of the Animal healing Trust in 2008 with partner Richard Keogh, says: "There is so much we want to do. There are thousands of horses out there that are terribly mistreated by people who don't understand how to care for them. Many horses live a life of cruelty and neglect - and we want to put a stop to that."

Andy Haywood, joint Managing Director at officebroker.com alongside Jim Venables, has pledged support to the Trust.

Andy says: "I love horses and hate to see the way some of them are treated. The Animal Healing Trust is a fantastic charity and I'd like to give them all the help I can, so they can continue their good work."

The support by Andy and staff at officebroker.com was as a result of a meeting between Jo Davey, officebroker.com New Business Manager, and Sue and Richard of the Animal Healing Trust.

"I was so impressed by their dedication to these lovely animals, who have all been very badly treated, that I offered to raise money to help them." Jo says, who is now working with the Trust to promote and expand their fundraising campaign.

"All money goes directly to feed and help with the upkeep of the horses," Jo adds. "I am sponsoring myself, and would love to see more support from local businesses and anyone that can spare a few pounds a month. I know that Sue and Richard will be forever grateful!"

The Trust currently receives regular support from friends, family and acquaintances. One such example of their generosity is the arrival of 'Miracle', an ex-racehorse who was rescued the day before she was sent to the slaughterhouse. In less than 24 hours the Trust had to raise £500 in exchange for the horse.

"We didn't have £500," said Sue, "However, 2 hours later around 30 friends and family had pledged donations, from £5 to £100, and we had the money we needed! We had her the following day and we decided to call her Miracle."

The Trust is now looking to gain more donors to help maintain costs, obtain extra grazing land and expand their network to rescue more horses.
